Get to know Sarah Tay
How did you get started in the business of fitness and wellness?
After working as an accountant for five years, I realised that my job made
me unhappy and my unhappiness made me unwell. I reached a point where I
wasn’t prepared to put up with it any longer and decided that, rather than
face a dismal unhealthy future, I would make my passions — health and
nutrition — into a career.
What do you love about your job?
The fact that I can help people make a real difference to the quality of
their life.
What’s been the most rewarding moment of your career?
Being told by a client who had been struggling with her fertility, that she
was pregnant — with twins.
What’s been your best result with an organisation or individual?
After 3 months of working with an 11 year old boy his mother rang me very
excitedly. She had just attended Parents’ Evening and had been told that not
only had the teachers noticed her son’s weight loss and increased
confidence, but he had gone from being a B/C grade student to scoring As and
Bs across the board. I was absolutely thrilled.
What’s the secret to balance in your life?
I do something for me every day. Even on the busiest day, I’ll fit in a
quick walk or a run. It recharges me emotionally and physically and helps me
feel in control. I also make sure I get enough sleep: if I’m well rested I
can cope with anything.
Healthy living is great — do you have any vices?
Warm buttery croissants and, predictably, chocolate.
What’s your favourite time of the day/week?
Early mornings are my favourite — even Monday mornings. Since changing my
career to a job I love, the beginning of the week holds a sense of
excitement.
How would you describe yourself?
Personable, lively and driven.
Favourite films
I’m a sucker for period dramas and any films that involve fancy
martial arts moves.
Favourite books
For pure escapism, anything by Alexander McCall Smith. For
inspiration, I turn to Jack Canfield’s The Success Principles.
Favourite music
Most of my music taste, I wouldn’t admit to!
How would you describe yourself?
Upbeat, warm, independent, driven.
Favourite food/drink
I love rice in any guise. Eating rice, for me, is like being hugged.
Favourite season
Autumn. Crisp weather, sunny blue skies and burnt leaves.
Favourite saying/motto
Change can happen in an instant.
Pet hates/what would you like to live without?
Injustice. Mediocrity. People who always say ’no’. Cold tea.
What makes time fly for you?
Time flies when I’m in good company. And when I’m shopping.
