Healthy Eating Toolkit: Introduction

Despite what you see in some diet books and TV programmes, healthy eating can be really straightforward.

When it comes to a healthy diet, balance is the key to getting it right. This means eating a wide variety of foods in the right proportions and consuming the right amount of food and drink to achieve great energy and maintain a healthy body weight.

So a healthy diet can include the foods you love but balanced with tasty alternatives too.

For those of you new to our approach to healthy eating, this toolkit contains a 7-week healthy eating plan made up of a wide variety of foods, so you can try something different each day.

By the end of the 7 week plan, you may have discovered some new favourite foods to add to your shopping list.

By eating a healthy balanced diet, you are not only maintaining good health but you won’t feel hungry and it will help you to feel your best and look fantastic.

There are lots of recipes for you to try, including quick and easy meals for the time-conscious.

We have also catered for people with special dietary needs and have included vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options for many dishes in the plan.

Our labelling helps you easily identify specific recipes, so whether you are watching your cholesterol or looking for a low salt diet, there is something for everyone.

Also, take a look at our traffic light system for each recipe so you can see how you are doing against the recommended ‘Reference Intake’ figures (RI), previously know as 'guideline daily amounts’ (GDA).

We all have different needs, depending on work and family, so we’ve also included plenty of fact sheets for specific requirements, e.g. activity calories; alcohol; energy drinks and a guide to choosing the healthier option when eating out.

So, whether you choose to follow the plan for the full seven weeks or just want to dip in to try something new, then there’s no time like the present to get started.
