Saving animals is a demanding vocation so Animals Asia wanted to make sure that they care about their people as much as the great work they do.
Early in 2023 we delivered a workshop to their global workforce to help them make sure they weren’t neglecting their own needs in an effort to do the best for the organisation.
The team took part in a self-assessment exercise and identified priority action points.
Then in July we ran a follow up workshop to see how they got on.
In addition to supporting the business with the workshops we helped the leadership team to establish some rules of the road when it comes to wellness throughout the organisation.
Here’s what they’ve come up with so far…
We have quite an active wellbeing ‘channel’ on Slack now and a group of people have signed up to a team event next year to walk 50km.
We have also introduced ’no meeting Friday’ which has gone down very well and people are really noticing the differences… it’s likely we’ll roll that out across the org.
Some of us are doing ‘buddy accountability check ins’ with each other and managing our progress with habit trackers.
As a leadership team, we are intentionally trying to lead by example with no emails at weekends - and trying to limit them out of hours.
Many people are also putting in their workouts into their diaries and we are seeing an increase in the balance of personal / work hours.
We have a draft wellbeing charter - which I actually need to finalise and launch … your email is a good reminder.
Personally, I am doing quite well - am training for a 10k, lost 3kg and given up alcohol!
